Sometimes we really need to pause in all activities, just enjoying the beauty of nature is the most effective way to restore mood and energy. This cottage house makes for the perfect escape from the world, Toronto-based BLDG workshops built a vacation home nestled on a peninsula on Ontario’s stunning lake.
Named “Algonquin Highlands Cottage”, the development of this cottage design revolves around the desire to create spectacular indoor and outdoor spaces. It is set in a stunning landscape between forested rocky mountains and overlooks a beautiful lake.
The design process prioritized how the space could be related to the sun’s patterns as the client liked its connection to morning light or evening light. In practice, the obvious opportunity presented itself in setting up a home so that a screened porch sits atop the front of the house.
Almost all parts of the cottage house apply an open concept. Aligned with the wall of large interior sliding windows, the whole house functions as an outdoor space with full connection to outdoor life all day long.
